Hello Friends,
Dear March Come in! What a glorious week we’re having, Spring is arriving with real heart. We have lots to share, so please keep reading and share with a friend and of course we can’t wait to welcome you to the woods again soon.
Later this month, March 28th, we'll be gathering around the time of equinox to mark the time between Winter and summer Solstice - Spring Equinox; Ostara. We'll be playing and balancing together and brilliant Caroline from WeCreate will be joining us to get crafty under the trees - come along and try your hand at egg blowing and decorating. It's going to be brilliant.
As well as Coppice Club and family gatherings, we've also got plans for a SOUND CAMP and summertime mid-week campfire evenings. More details on these to follow soon.
Our new Coppice Club is gathering momentum with our next date of Sunday 19th April. Join us to tend this beautiful Sussex woodland through hands on activities with others who care for the land. In Feb we made mallets, started on spoons and spatulas as well as enjoying time together around the fire.
You can also sign up to our newsletter to stay connected to happenings at Sawpit Woods....You can catch a clip of Em talking about Coppice Club on insta here. Bring your gloves and hand saws to get involved!

Coppice Club February 2028 ![]() As Spring arrived at Sawpit Woods... We dusted off our tools, learned new skills, carved mallets, made new connections, explored the woodland and built our dead hedges — all soaked in that first warm sun. As the daffodils sang, we got busy making mallets and starting to carve spoons and spatulas amongst the emerging blue bell shoots. With grandmothers, grandchildren, solo visitors, parents and newcomers, we all enjoyed the time and space together with biscuits, tea, coffee and time to roam the woods. Here is a selection of photos and you can see our insta post about it here.

Hire Sawpit Woods for your events ![]() Sawpit Woods is a fantastic space to host an event, workshop or gathering and we've recently been enjoying connecting with brilliant partners to explore working together in the woods. The woods themselves are the space, with a few additions to help make it as simple and natural as possible.
We have a fire circle with handmade oak stools made from Sawpit Woods timber, a small shed with a compost toilet, a woven hazel storage shed with coat pegs, and running water too.
In the past the space has been used for: Forest school holiday and after school sessions, school visits, birthday parties, Children's Forest sessions, weddings, coaching workshops, seasonal gatherings, baby massage groups, local community events, forest school camps, women's fires, singing workshops, community celebrations and music camps.
If you have collaboration ideas for kids, family and adult sessions and events that you’d like to see happen here or would like to hire the space yourself, please do be in touch. |
Poem of the monthDear March - Come in!DEAR March, come in! How glad I am! I looked for you before. Put down your hat— You must have walked— How out of breath you are! Dear March, how are you? And the rest? Did you leave Nature well? Oh, March, come right upstairs with me, I have so much to tell! - Emily Dickinson
