Winter wonders

"Why is the sky so dark?"

"Because the days are getting shorter and the sun goes down early in the winter"

The children were wondering with each other why the sky looked nearly dark this afternoon before we set off for the woods in the pouring rain. By the time we had got all of our waterproofs, hats and wellies on the rain had passed and we had the glorious sight of a wondrous rainbow and winter skies.

Then there was the storm clouds passing and the setting sun.

The children lit the fire and had hot drinks. They made wreaths in the dark and swung on the swing. They created a 'pond' by damming the stream and messed around in the muddy darkness. They spotted stars, planets and the waxing moon in the darkness. A lovely winters afternoon was spent in the woods.
